CECIMO in EU projects

CECIMO in European Research Projects

Our action aims at:

- Improving the match between European research projects and the needs of our industry - CECIMO helps defining RTD projects that answer real industrial needs and show a clear potential for commercial and technical exploitation. CECIMO also enhances industrial participation into European RTD projects.

- Maximising the dissemination of the research results in the sector of machine tools - This is done mainly via the 15 National Associations represented by CECIMO and the organisation of public events in trade fairs such as EMO, the largest fair for Machine Tools worldwide.

The CECIMO Technical Department is currently involved in the following RTD projects:

ManuFuture,

EU Technology Platform which aims at assuring the future of manufacturing in Europe (Manufacturing in EU recognized as a major economic driver). Improved Strategic Research Agenda (SRA).

Integ-MICRO,

this project aims to develop a new high precision manufacturing technologies to respond cost efficiently and eco-friendly to the mass customisation paradigm within the production of complex shape micro parts, embedded systems and miniaturized products at micro/meso-scale level. The results are driven to respond to the future needs of the medical and bio-medical, automotive, environmental monitoring, aeronautic and aerospace sectors.

Former projects where CECIMO has been involved:

NEXT,

“NEXT Generation Production System” - The NEXT project aims at committing the European production machinery industry to new frontiers in diverse fields: The Green Machines, The user centric autonomous machine, The manufacturing frontiers, New business paradigm for machinery, New contents for training and dissemination around production equipment. CECIMO is in charge of the dissemination activities.

CECIMO organises the NEXT conference during EMO Hannover on 21 September 2007. "NEXT Generation Production Systems' Conference: how to exploit innovative technologies and business practices?" NEXT website

"Leading European RTD Sustained High Value Innovative Production for ManuFuture".

The project is focused on the development, integration and use of RTD roadmaps as strategic tools for innovation management in EU-manufacturing industry, as well as the activities within the context of the ManuFuture SRA.

PROLIMA,

"Environmental Product Life Cycle Management for building competitive machine tools". The project intends to impact on 2 major phases of the life cycle of machine tools (desing phase, operation and use phase). Two main results are available for the industry: The Best Environmental Practice Manual and the Software for Life Cycle Cost Analysis and Environmental Life Cycle Assesment.

MANTYS (Thematic Network on Manufacturing Technologies)

MANTYS project aimed at promoting cross-sectoral information exchange and identifying promising trends to boost innovation in manufacturing technology and optimise the return on EU research investment in production equipment.

CECIMO and the EC 7th Framework Programme (FP7)

Through the 15 CECIMO national associations, with their large Europe-wide membership in the production machinery and machine tool sectors (around 1500 enterprises), CECIMO has a clear interest in the prosperity of SMEs. CECIMO aims to encourage an support the participation of SMEs in the EU Framework Programmes of Research and Technlogical Development, especially in IP, NoE, STREP and Collective Research projects that have CECIMO as partner.

The services that CECIMO can provide include:

- Ensuring the right communication between FP7 funded projects consortia that are looking for SMEs with a specific expertise and SMEs looking for opportunities in such projects;

- Give the possibility to a SME to intervene for a short period of time (6 or 12 months, to develop a specific application for instance) in a much longer project without having to plan this in from the beginning of the project.
