Press Release: CECIMO strengthens dialogue with policymakers with creation of new Additive Manufacturing committee

Brussels, 4 December 2018 – CECIMO has created a new Additive Manufacturing (AM) committee. The new committee will be the preeminent platform to discuss EU policy challenges and opportunities in the field of AM.

With this action, CECIMO’s General Assembly has formalised the association’s position as the European Association for the whole value chain of the AM Industry in Europe. The committee will act as an umbrella for all of CECIMO’s current activities – technical, statistical, economic, business and communication – as the voice of additive manufacturing technologies at European level.

"The future of European industry lies in the industrialisation of innovative technologies, such as Additive Manufacturing. With the creation of this committee, we are allowing all AM businesses to speak with a single, authoritative and expert voice in EU topics affecting their competitiveness, innovation and growth’’, said the newly-appointed Chairman of the CECIMO AM Committee, Mr Stewart Lane, Corporate Manager at Renishaw plc.

The committee will rely on more than 350 AM organisations with leading expertise that span across 15 national associations represented by CECIMO at European level.

"AM is quickly moving from prototyping to serial production in a variety of sectors. We are on the verge of seeing the technology’s industrial uptake in Europe. Now more than ever, it is crucial to guarantee a permanent, expert-driven dialogue with EU policymakers, in order to create a thriving ecosystem for AM. Our association has been at the forefront of this effort for a very long time. With this committee, we are renewing our dedication to this objective’’, said Mr Filip Geerts, the Director General of CECIMO.

The new AM Committee will focus on broad subjects vital for the industrialisation of AM in Europe, such as the right EU regulatory framework, workforce development, trade and AM-related statistics. It will also build upon the work of the existing AM Working Group, where CECIMO members single out specific policy and business subjects to exchange views on and suggest common steps.
