On September 23, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) launched a study and online tool designed to support EU policymakers, industry leaders, and Member States in assessing the performance of the advanced manufacturing industry in Europe. CECIMO, a key stakeholder, contributed to the study by assisting with the development of methodologies and technology categories.

The report highlights that the global advanced manufacturing industry is concentrated in China (45%), the US, and the EU (10%). Within Europe, Germany, Spain, France, and Italy host over 60% of the region's AM firms. Dominant technologies include '3D Printing', 'Power Electronics', and 'Dynamic Data', while the EU holds a competitive edge in niche technologies like 'IoT' and 'Extended Reality'. However, the region lags behind China in 'Power Electronics' and 'AI'.

You can access the online tool HERE.

The rise of automation brings both challenges and opportunities for the workforce. As machines and AI take on tasks once handled by humans, workers must adapt to new skills and job roles. This shift highlights the need to reassess educational and training programs to prepare the workforce for these changes.

Currently, we’re at the early stages of integrating automation into manufacturing. This report explores the benefits and challenges of this transition, aiming to guide policymakers, industry leaders, and educators on the importance of developing automation solutions and their impact on the manufacturing sector.
