The last edition of our magazine is dedicated to the topic of Sustainable Manufacturing in the Digital Age, taking on board different topics to promote our vision towards future-oriented manufacturing and business continuity. In order to overcome the current geopolitical challenges and disruptions caused by the global pandemic, while ensuring industry competitiveness, it is critical to invest in innovative solutions and adopt advanced manufacturing technologies..

Enabling the Circular Economy with Additive Manufacturing

CECIMO, with the support of its network of National Associations, decided to collect best practices from AM industries with the goal to promote AM as a true enabler of the circular economy. The Brochure gives examples of different technologies and how their application can help different sectors to improve their production sustainability.

Guidelines for Companies to Taxonomy

The EU taxonomy establishes a European Union-wide classification system to identify economic activities that contribute to the achievement of the environmental objectives. CECIMO drafted a guide to help its network prepare for the upcoming application of this new Regulation, listing its main provisions and drawing attention to its ambitious implementation schedule.

CECIMO Joins the High Level Forum on European Standardisation 

We are delighted to announce that the European Commission has appointed CECIMO as a member of the High-Level Forum on European Standardisation, with our President Dr Heinz- Jürgen Prokop as our nominated representative and our upcoming President Mr François Duval as our alternate representative.

LATEST CECIMO PRESS RELEASE: Emerging Technologies - a Catalyst for Innovation and Economic Prosperity in Challenging Times

During its General Assembly, CECIMO announced a turnover for 2022 of almost €25 billion, which is 10% higher compared to 2021. However, with global economies slowing down, and lower consumer and business confidence, we foresee less optimistic developments in global demand in the near future.

Online conference of the European Forum for Manufacturing 

In October, our Policy and Project Officer, Gabriele Favaro, participated in an online conference of the European Forum for Manufacturing to present CECIMO’s views on the Data Act together with high-level stakeholders, Members of the European Parliament, and institutional players.

FROM OUR ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT
Between September and November 2022, CECIMO, the European Association of the Machine Tool Industries and related Manufacturing Technologies, organized the fifth round of its European Additive Manufacturing Survey, which aims to assess key market trends in the Additive Manufacturing (AM) sector. It is a six-month survey that helps the industry record trend indications for key business areas, such as domestic business, AM exports, orders by type of material, client industry demand and investment trend. 3D printing companies express their six-month indications in the key business areas compared to the situation over the past six months.

CECIMO Business Climate Barometer - Q3 2022

Based on the latest results from the CECIMO Business Climate Barometer, our machine tool manufacturers have expressed higher than expected optimism about the overall business climate for the third quarter of 2022. However, as the global business situation worsened, their expectations for the upcoming quarter remained moderately negative.

We are pleased to announce that the second edition of our booklet containing European funding opportunities for the advanced manufacturing sector has been recently released.

CECIMO developed a booklet that provides an overview of the different funding programmes, such as Horizon Europe, Digital Europe Programme, European Innovation Council (EIC) and EIC Accelerator, European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Manufacturing, Erasmus +, as well as a description of Cascade funding and its relevance for SMEs. As the TRINITY project will end in June 2023,  the consortium is organizing the final on-site event on “Agile Manufacturing and Standardisation” taking place in Brussels on Wednesday 8th February from 8.30 to 16.00.

EARASHI aims to improve working conditions, trust, and acceptance of collaborative embodied AI in robotic systems. This will be achieved by supporting Industry, especially start-ups and SMEs, in the uptake of advanced digital and eco-responsible technologies (in particular AI, data, and robotics).The consortium is launching the first round of open calls for funding opportunities in mid-February and 10 Application Experiments will be selected to develop their innovative solutions benefiting from up to 200,000 euros per project. Under the slogan “Innovate Manufacturing”, EMO Hannover 2023 presents the latest technological, strategic and organizational trends in the sector. EMO Hannover is the starting point for innovations, important debates and new business partnerships.

CECIMO Fall Meetings 2022

The CECIMO Fall Meetings took place in Brussels, Belgium, on 30 November and 1 December 2022. The two days programme was centred around different events where we debated advanced manufacturing, AI, cybersecurity and macro-economic trends.

In November 2022, CECIMO signed a partnership agreement with EIT Manufacturing that means the value of strategic importance for the future in the machine tool sector and advanced manufacturing.

This will be a great opportunity not only to address common challenges but also to move forward together and achieve the following objectives:

  • Promote industry-driven and cross-sectoral initiatives that accelerate advanced manufacturing and digital businesses.
  • Align on key issues and establish new strategies to promote the EU’s sustainable manufacturing.
  • Support SMEs in the strategic shift toward the adoption of digital technologies to enable the business growth.
  • Foster partnerships, training, and education programs to tap into the full potential of the new technologies

Moreover, as of January 2023, CECIMO officially became a member of the Business at OECD (BIAC), an international business group and solutions partner bringing over 60 years of experience officially representing the private sector in all aspects of OECD policymaking.

Such membership will give us the opportunity to participate in OECD Committees, Working Parties and Expert Groups on different areas (e.g., Energy, Environment, SMEs, Trade and Innovation). CECIMO joins this global network of 45 major business federations and their corporate affiliates to work on data, European and international advocacy and expand its networking reach. Being part of the BIAC represents added value of strategic importance for the future of the manufacturing sector and gives us the opportunity to contribute to OECD policy recommendations to impact policy-making at an early stage.
