The Fall 2021 edition of our magazine was dedicated to the digital future of the manufacturing industry, taking on board topics that are of relevance for production technology. CECIMO HAS A NEW PRESIDENT

During its online General Assembly meeting, CECIMO appointed Dr.-Ing. Heinz-Jürgen Prokop as a new President of CECIMO for a two-year period, along with Mr Michael Merkle, Chairman of Communication and Advocacy Committee. Delegates also confirmed Mr Marcus Burton as Chairman of the Economic Committee for another mandate.

WE ORGANISED THE 7th EDITION OF THE ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING EUROPEAN CONFERENCE (AMEC)

In the last years, the AM industry has been evolving at an unprecedented pace, moving beyond rapid prototyping and tooling applications. The 7th edition of AMEC focused on the latest technological improvements and applications of AM in the different crucial industries (transport, medical, aerospace and construction).

POSITIVE ECONOMIC INDICATORS DESPITE THE ONGOING GLOBAL PANDEMIC

During its online General Assembly, CECIMO shows a more optimistic outlook for 2021, with expected production growth of 11.5% and a positive scenario for the European Machine Tool sector in 2022. On the policy side, General Assembly debated on key topics of interest for the sector such as digital technologies, sustainability, machinery directive, and additive manufacturing.

AN EXCELLENT 2021 FOR THE ITALIAN INDUSTRY OF MACHINE TOOLS, ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION

The year 2021 was extremely positive for the Italian industry of machine tools, robotics and automation, which reported double-digit increases for all key economic indicators. This trend should continue even in 2022, the year when all the ground lost in 2020 should be recovered.

AN UPDATE FROM UMATI 

umati has made great steps ahead in the past 12 months. The first version of the specifications OPC 40501-1 UA for Machine Tools was released in in September 2020. All companies that manufacture machines, components such as controllers, software for machine tools and IT systems in the production environment are developing and refining their products based on this specification – worldwide and free of charge.

THE BENEFITS OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS IN EU FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS 

A recent ECIPE report, supported by CECIMO and other industry associations, was published yesterday and demonstrates how Intellectual Property (IP) stimulates EU GDP, productivity, investments and exports of Europe by strengthening IP-intensive sectors.

NEW DATE: METAV 2022 FROM 21 TO 24 JUNE 

METAV 2022, the International Exhibition for Metalworking Technologies, will be postponed from March to June 2022. The new date has been set for June 21 to 24. The early decision is intended to help avoid further costs and create planning security for exhibitors.

The second demonstration programme has started, 18 new groups of companies will run their experiments focused on improving the agility and productivity in European manufacturing SMEs through the implementation of robotics, IoT and cybersecurity and the related digital solutions.

Figures related to the Second Open Call:
  • the consortia are made of 3 partners for 12 projects and 2 for the remaining 6
  • 12 consortia are female-led and 4 are led by companies from the EU13 countries
  • with a total of 48 beneficiaries from 20 countries and 9 Trinity use cases to test, the demonstrators are starting their implementation phase.

SAM
SAM Observatory has been constantly updated and expanded during the last months. New pilot courses have achieved great success and the webinar series involved more than 300 participants. The last year of the project will be focused on defining a sustainable structure for the future development of the platform after the end of the project, making SAM the first information and learning platform for Additive Manufacturing.
