CECIMO press release: DESIGN-MTS Project promotes sustainability in the European machine tool industry – The results will be presented in a conference at the BI-MU Trade Fair in Milan next October

23 September 2014

The DESIGN-MTS project results will be disseminated through a conference at the BI-MU Trade Fair in Milan on 1 October 2014 from 14:00 to 17:00 in the Arena Pianeta Giovani in Hall 13. This arena is organised by UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, the Italian member of CECIMO. It presents results arising from various successful collaborations, including DESIGN-MTS, between companies, research centers, universities and associations. The DESIGN-MTS conference will highlight the results of the project and hosts various company representatives who will inform the audience about their sustainable solutions.

The DESIGN-MTS project, launched in July 2013, offers a European CSR and sustainability platform for the machine tool industry, and disseminates best practices from the sector towards the value chain. Filip Geerts, director general at CECIMO, says “The European machine tool industry is a key provider of innovative and sustainable products and services to a great number of user industries including automotive, aerospace and energy generation equipment. BI-MU Milan is an ideal trade show for the DESIGN-MTS project to organize a conference and expand the visibility of sustainable solutions and best practices from our sector to a wider audience, including suppliers and buyers”.

Since its launch, the DESIGN-MTS project has reached important milestones such as identification of best practices, online training modules and setting up a help-desk on CSR. The project particularly addresses key issues for the sector such as skills and training, life-long learning and energy-efficiency. “CSR has become under the spotlight of various stakeholders at European and national levels. The DESIGN-MTS project increases the CSR awareness in the sector and offers a common platform to companies where they can make the most of their communication efforts on sustainable solutions” adds Emir Demircan, project manager at CECIMO.

The DESIGN-MTS project is endorsed and co-funded by the European Commission, and is led by the University of Macerata. Partner institutions are: CECIMO, CSR-Europe, CEI – Central European Initiative, IRES, the University of Nottingham. The duration of the project is 18 months, from July 2013 to December 2014.
