Report on EU-China Foreign Direct Investment

Dr Frank Brinken, Chairman of CECIMO Economic Committee and Member of the Board of Directors at Starrag Group, was a panellist of the event “Europe’s technology for sale?”, which took place on 9 March 2017 at European Parliament and it was hosted by MEPs Reinhard Bütikofer and Bernd Lange.

At the conference, participants highlighted that Europe is open to trade and foreign investment, but in a reasonable and balanced way, in compliance with rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO): responding to dumping and using other trade defense instruments. The industry strongly agrees with this policy, but asks for reciprocity and certainty from our Chinese counterparts. The CECIMO report analyses the different aspects of European and Chinese investments and how Europe should find a good balance between fair trade relations and open approach to inward investment.
