SST- Skills Initiatives

SST’s activities related to skills development are the following:

The Association of Engineering Technology particularly supports the vocational training of students in technical secondary schools and apprenticeships focused on engineering, and thus on the training of the next generation of employees of the member companies. In addition to minor acitivities, SST:

  • Annually organises the Young Machinists Competition in CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) machine tool programming, which has been held for 13 years as part of the accompanying programme of the International Engineering Fair in Brno.

Students compete for four days and are divided according to the control systems they have chosen in advance – HEIDENHAIN, SIEMENS or FANUC. Machines for the practical part of the competition, during which students can try to produce a workpiece according to their program, are loaned by SST member companies, and tools are supplied by another cooperating company, DORMER PRAMET.

The students’ competition also enjoys the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic. The acting Minister of Industry and Trade also regularly holds a gala morning at the Ministry, during which he personally presents diplomas to the students who took the first three places in each category of the competition. The students receive valuable gifts from Director of the Association of Engineering Technology and cooperating manufacturing companies. The competition also has its own media partner, which is one of the most important technically oriented magazines Technicky týdeník.
