In a near future, the Internet of Things (IoT) will drive most of the manufacturing processes – from product development, to manufacturing, to production, to customer service.
The CECIMO webinar on “Latest developments on the use of Internet of Things technologies in manufacturing production” focused on the challenges and opportunities of IoT technologies in the manufacturing industry. The guest-speakers that participated to the webinar were Dr. -Ing. Bernhard Langefeld and Mr. Alexander von Paumgartten, co-authors of the Roland Berger’s white paper “IoT in production – challenges and opportunities for OEMs”. They provided an overview of the latest IoT adoptions and IoT technologies in the manufacturing industry and examined how to tackle current and future challenges for the sector.

Bernhard Langefeld is a Partner in the Engineered Products & High Tech Competence Center in Frankfurt, Germany. He has been with Roland Berger since 2011 and advises clients on aspects surrounding product portfolio, production, advanced manufacturing and 3D printing. Prior to joining the firm, Bernhard was Production Manager for a Luxembourg-based mechanical engineering company, Process Engineer, Plant Manager and Project Manager for a tier one automotive supplier and Management Consultant at a leading British consultancy. He studied Mechanical Engineering and Environmental Sciences at the RWTH in Aachen, Germany, where he was awarded a doctorate on the subject of metal forming technologies.
Alexander von Paumgartten

Alexander von Paumgartten is a Senior Consultant at the Roland Berger Frankfurt Office and advises clients on dossiers regarding Digitalization, Industry 4.0, Cloud, IoT, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Before joining the firm, Mr. von Paumgartten had been working with SIEMENS for 9 years driving Partners to manage Industry 4.0 and Digitalization. After a Master of Engineering at Hochschule München, he recently obtained a Professional Certificate in Data Science from Harvard University.
