Joint letter on EU Taxonomy Appendix C

The signatories of this letter represent a significant portion of the European economy and are deeply committed to delivering the net-zero transformation and driving the green transition. As key contributors to these efforts, we recognize the EU Taxonomy framework as an essential tool for bridging the considerable investment gaps that currently exist.
The EU Taxonomy Regulation (EU/2020/852), central to the EU’s sustainable finance agenda, has the potential to further direct financial flows towards sectors and activities aligned with the climate and environmental objectives, provided that the criteria are fit for purpose and implementable.
However, we have identified a significant challenge in the EU Taxonomy Appendix C (“Generic criteria for Do No Significant Harm (DNSH) related to pollution prevention and control regarding the use and presence of chemicals”), as well as additional provisions in the Technical Screening Criteria. These provisions are currently preventing companies that provide enabling technologies for the green transition from demonstrating their alignment with the EU Taxonomy.
